All Eyes On Rafah Image Goes Viral, Israel Counters With October 7 Graphic Hamas Attack

New Delhi:

Celebrities, athletes and millions of other social media users around the world have been sharing the “All Eyes On Rafah” post to draw attention to Israeli airstrikes on the war-torn city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, where at least 45 civilians, including children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes aimed at eliminating Hamas in the refugee camp there. The incident has sparked international outrage and deepened Israel’s global isolation over the Gaza war.

But Israel responded by sharing an image from its own country asking why he wasn’t posting about the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel. The Oct. 7 attack killed about 1,160 people in Israel, most of them civilians. The militants also took about 250 hostages, dozens of whom were released during a week-long ceasefire in November. Israel believes that 99 of the hostages held by the militants are still alive, and 31 were killed.

According to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, at least 31,112 people have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory military operations to destroy Hamas.

Amid widespread condemnation, Israel also denied targeting the Rafah base and blamed the damage on secondary fires caused by rockets hitting a Hamas weapons facility.

In a post on Twitter, Benjamin Netanyahu’s government shared a photo with the caption “October 7th, where were your eyes?” The image shows a Hamas fighter standing in front of a baby.

The reaction came hours after a video called “Watch Rafah” was shared by nearly 45 million people on Instagram. The video depicts endless rows of tents packed into a mountainous desert landscape, an allusion to the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled there during Israel’s military campaign against Hamas.

Indian celebrities who posted the “All Eyes On Rafah” image included Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Aalia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
