“This happens all the time, white boys coming up to me about Trump and saying, “He's such a racist.'' “So how can black people vote for him more every time?'' I’m like, ‘What?’” And, you know, they didn’t really vote for him, but the men did, okay? And I said, you know what? I don't want to speak for all black people…please tell me if I'm wrong or right,” Maher said. “I said, do you know what black people think about Trump? Like, is he a racist? Yeah, but they think all white people are some kind of racist. Like, do they think white people talk like Trump behind closed doors? Yeah, he's just a crazy person.”

“Being a black man, I don't look at white people and automatically think they're racist. You automatically know that people come from backgrounds and have different experiences than us,” Smith responded, insisting that Trump has not changed his rhetoric since becoming president.

“We know that people he's been friends with for years were talking the same way around you, and you guys didn't see any problem with it.” Said. “Don't act like there's a problem right now.”

In October, radio host Charlamagne tha God argued that Trump's history of dating prominent black men does not negate racism allegations against him. But Maher noted that Trump had “some real black friends and some black people who liked him.”

“At the time, I wouldn't have called myself his friend by any stretch of the imagination. But I've said this many times, including on a recent appearance on 'The View.' said. Mr. Trump and I were friends before he ran for president. “Especially for the Tyson fight, we had boxing matches at Trump's casino,” Smith said. “He would be at Knicks games and stuff like that. Honestly, all the brothers thought he was cool. They thought he was pretty cool. Let's face it. He Because he knew his sport, okay? He spoke up about his feelings and went against the system that we love, and we were drawn to that.”

“And he was of a certain age, so you can understand that a white guy of that age would be a little like, 'Grandpa, I don't say that anymore.'” But he really had a heart. Do you harbor hatred inside? No,” Maher declared. “I don't think his motivation is 'I hate black people.' I think his motivation is 'Everyone has to love me.'”

Smith agreed, and Ma argued that President Trump's problem was more with “narcissism” than with “racism.”

“I've never called him a racist. I've never talked about him that way. Ever,” Smith asserted. “Not once. Not once, because I knew about him beforehand.”
