According to contributor Jeff Greenfield, there is a good chance that President-elect Donald Trump's nominee will be confirmed by the Senate. “Politico'' magazine.
Greenfield's opinion contradicts mainstream media reports about the possible confirmations of Pete Hegseth, Matt Gaetz and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“I'm very proud of him,” said Greenfield, a Yale-trained lawyer and former speechwriter for President John F. Kennedy. politiko magazine Readers learned that history supports Mr. Trump's approval of the nominee, who he described as “the most unqualified person ever nominated.”
in an editorial published Greenfield on Tuesday cited three reasons why all of Trump's nominees should be approved.
- “The last time a nominee was rejected on the Senate floor was in 1989.”
- “Mr. Trump has consistently demonstrated the ability to intimidate Republican lawmakers into doing his bidding.”
- “[T]The next Republican majority in the Senate will be very different from the majority President Trump faced in his first term…”
Politico Toplines further summarized Greenfield's argument:
Are you betting that the Senate will vote down some of President Donald Trump's more disturbing Cabinet appointees? Knowing the history may make you think again. Jeff Greenfield of POLITICO magazine writes: in his latest columnit's been nearly 35 years since the Senate rejected the president's Cabinet nominees, and that losing streak shows no signs of stopping.
The last time the Senate opposed a cabinet nominee was in 1989, when it voted against Sen. John Tower, George H.W. Bush's nominee for secretary of defense. Tower faced accusations of drug abuse and sexual assault – Sound familiar? –But those weren't even the main factors in his defeat, Jeff writes, “it was primarily a matter of coordination within the party.”
Long story short, don't hold your breath. “The landscape in the Senate suggests a surprising, almost contemptuous challenge to Trump. Confirm my selection or I will hold the appointment without your vote — is likely to be successful. ”
