Alleged Mississippi home invader fatally shot in exchange of gunfire after midnight, sheriff’s office says

Last week, an alleged home invader in Mississippi was shot and killed in a gunfight.

Tunica County Sheriff's Office said Just after 1 a.m. last Friday, a resident of the 1600 block of Beatline Road in Tunica called 911 to report an attempted home invasion. Tunica is located in the northwestern part of the state, approximately 60 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee.

“This is our small town and we should feel safe.”

Authorities said a caller said there was a gunfight and two people were shot.

Arriving sheriff's deputies found a 46-year-old man living in the home suffering from a gunshot wound, officials said, adding that he was treated at the scene and taken to a Memphis hospital.

Police found a second man, identified as Nadarius Joyner, 30, of Tunica, injured in the shooting. The man was treated at the scene but died, officials said.

“Homeowners have a constitutional right to protect their homes if someone enters,” the sheriff's office said. “No arrests have been made.”
