“Nearly every nation is eager to negotiate,” President Donald Trump stated on Monday.
While speaking to reporters alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump elaborated on the developments that have transpired since last Wednesday.
“This indicates that almost every nation is inclined to negotiate. Without the actions I’ve taken in recent weeks, no one would be interested in negotiations,” he remarked.
“Previously, if we asked these nations, ‘Do you wish to converse?’ they would respond, ‘No, we’re not interested.’ Now, they are approaching us,” he added.
Trump highlighted that his private discussion with Netanyahu started with the Prime Minister declaring that all tariffs would be settled.
“Even Bibi, although this is a different kind of relationship, initiated our conversation today by stating he will eliminate all the tariffs. He’s ready to transition to a free base.”
Trump noted that numerous countries that had previously taken advantage of the U.S. would now be open to discussions, as “we finally stood our ground.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent informed Fox Business Kudrow on Monday that around 70 countries have reached out to the administration.
“We can estimate that approximately 50, 60, or possibly 70 nations are approaching us, resulting in a busy April, May, and June,” Bescent stated.
Japan is one nation that has reached out, with Bescent anticipating that they will receive “priorities as they have advanced very swiftly.”
This aligns with Eric Trump’s cautions to other nations last week and his desire to negotiate alongside his father.
“I don’t want to be the last nation to strike a trade agreement. @RealdonaldTrump. The first negotiation will prevail – the last will undoubtedly fail. I’ve witnessed this pattern throughout my life,” he tweeted.
