Controversy Surrounds Eric Swalwell as Allegations Surface
On Monday, Alyssa Farrar Griffin, co-host of “The View,” discussed Rep. Eric Swalwell’s reputation, suggesting it’s an “open secret” that could be exploited by adversaries. This comment comes amidst Swalwell’s suspension of his campaign for governor of California, following allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.
Swalwell, a California Democrat, acknowledged an “error in judgment” but firmly stated that the assault accusations against him are false. Griffin, who recently returned from maternity leave, said it was hardly shocking to see these allegations against Swalwell. She recalled earlier concerns regarding his connection to a Chinese spy, noting, “It was well known that he struggled with women and had issues with alcohol.” She seemed to imply that such issues create vulnerabilities, especially for someone with a background in intelligence.
Moving on, Griffin emphasized the severity of the allegations, describing them as “disqualifying.” She remarked, “Winning isn’t everything. If you become obsessed with that, you miss the bigger picture.” She expressed concern for the victims, pointing out how these documented allegations cast a negative light not just on Swalwell but on the nation itself. “This kind of reputation makes us look weak to our enemies,” she argued.
In the backdrop of this controversy, some House Republicans have even initiated motions to expel Swalwell from Congress due to the accusations. Griffin added that it was concerning that such issues were known yet unaddressed, but she commended both Democrats and others for urging Swalwell to step down.
Co-host Sarah Haines specified that these accusations, which date back to 2019, should be viewed through the lens of the post-MeToo movement. She mentioned, “It’s not just about exposing wrongdoers anymore, but a clear announcement that silence is no longer acceptable.” Yet, Swalwell remained seemingly dismissive of the warnings back then.
As this situation unfolds, Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to Swalwell’s campaign for a response, but none was provided immediately.
