Alyssa Farah Griffin describes Newsom's remarks about the election as 'completely irresponsible'

Controversy on “The View” Over Newsom’s Election Comments

During Friday’s segment of “The View,” co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom’s remarks about free and fair elections, labeling them as “totally irresponsible.” This followed Newsom’s comments to ABC News, where he expressed concerns about the integrity of elections under President Trump, stating, “If we don’t stand up, we can’t have a fair and free election,” even suggesting Trump aims for “an election for Putin.”

Griffin pointed out that Newsom, as the governor of the most populous state, holds significant power over election processes in California, including cybersecurity and oversight of election officials. “He has a tremendous amount of power over this,” she noted.

She further contended that Newsom should assure voters of election integrity, saying, “He could at least promise that we will have free and fair elections in California.” However, she criticized his approach for not reflecting that commitment.

Co-host Sunny Hostin challenged Griffin, questioning how Newsom could ensure election integrity while federal observers were being sent to California. “Because he’s the chief executive of the state,” Griffin responded, expressing concerns about the implications of such federal oversight.

Before she could elaborate, co-host Joy Behar interrupted, suggesting Griffin’s tone sounded like “an election blackmailer.” Griffin then brought up the redistricting debate, likening it to Newsom’s stance on election monitors, saying, “When Texas redraws its maps, everyone’s furious, yet California seems to respond by increasing Democratic seats.”

Recently, the Justice Department announced federal election observers would be deployed to both California and New Jersey ahead of the upcoming elections, which would also feature a ballot measure in California aimed at redrawing congressional maps.

Co-host Sarah Haines expressed her agreement with Griffin’s concerns, suggesting that Newsom’s comments might further alienate voters who are already disillusioned with the electoral process. “People fought hard for the right to vote, yet fewer are showing up to polls,” she remarked, highlighting the potential consequences of undermining trust in elections.

Ultimately, these discussions reflect a broader anxiety over election integrity and the political landscape in the United States. FOX News Digital has reached out to Newsom’s office for further comment.
