Amanda Knox felt 'chills' while watching the Hulu series about her life

Amanda Knox shared her thoughts about the actress who will portray her in the upcoming Hulu series, “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.” In her comments, Knox expressed admiration for Grace Van Patten, noting that the performance gave her “chills” and highlighted Van Patten’s ability to grasp the weight of the role.

Reflecting on her past, Knox described feeling a profound sadness for the young man she used to be. At the series premiere on August 19 at the New York Historical Society, she recalled someone saying that the events of her life had “stolen my sparkle”—not just her freedom.

“The Twisted Story of Amanda Knox”

The new series recounts Knox’s true story, which includes her being convicted twice for the murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, back in 2007 while studying in Italy.

Knox spent four years in prison before her exoneration in 2015 by Italy’s Supreme Court. This eight-part series, produced by former White House aide Monica Lewinsky, explores the broader effects of the case on Knox’s family, Kercher’s family, and Knox’s then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who was also acquitted in the matter.

Meredith Kercher’s Family Reacts

Kercher’s sister, Stephanie, emphasized the importance of remembering Meredith for her fight for life. Stephanie conveyed that the family found the series hard to understand in terms of its intentions, stating, “We feel this indescribable void forever, but we live with dignity to Meredith’s standards.”

Knox, who spoke in March about her book on News Nation’s “Banfield,” shared insights into her experience in prison, describing it as “dehumanizing” and rife with sexual harassment. She mentioned that the media often portrayed her unfairly, asserting she was sexualized to an extreme.

Discussing Van Patten’s portrayal, Knox noted, “Everyone I’ve encountered wants to know, ‘How did you do it?’ She’s incredible, and I’m very thankful for her.” It’s as if Van Patten captured something Knox felt she has been grappling with for a long time.

However, mixed reviews have emerged regarding the series. Some critics have labeled the character portrayals as “uneven,” suggesting a lack of depth, especially given that Knox and Kercher’s connection was limited to just a few weeks before the tragedy.

The Hulu series made its debut on August 20.
