Amanda Seyfried Reflects on Socialism and Human Connection
On a recent podcast, actress Amanda Seyfried described socialism as a “great idea,” suggesting it embodies the notion of “caring for each other.” This conversation unfolded on the “Award Circuit” podcast with host Michael Schneider, where they shared concerns about the current national climate. The discussion meandered through Seyfried’s role in the musical “The Testament of Ang Lee,” which revolves around the founder of the Shaker religious movement. Both expressed a reluctance to leave the United States.
“We’re letting go of our roots, and I find it reassuring that we’re discussing Ang Lee so much, since there’s a clear link between what she represented and what feels absent today,” Seyfried remarked. “What if our purpose is simply to care for one another? Socialism sounds great in theory, but we know it doesn’t operate flawlessly.”
Schneider chimed in, mentioning that many people might not even grasp what socialism really entails.
“For me, it’s fundamentally about looking out for one another. If we have more resources, we can help others more effectively, right?” Seyfried added.
The conversation took a poignant turn when Schneider recalled the unity felt after the events of 9/11, where there was a strong sense of mutual support.
Seyfried agreed, noting, “Everyone gave up so much for each other. People even risked their lives in a heartbeat.” She continued, “And we shouldn’t have to wait for a disaster to put everything aside for one another. It’s just in our nature as humans.”
In another context, Seyfried addressed some recent backlash from her comments about the late Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk. She stated she wouldn’t apologize for her words, which she felt were grounded in reality, and mentioned that social media allowed her to reclaim her narrative.
“I’m not going to back down. I said what I said based on actual events and quotes. It’s factual, and while opinions differ, I appreciate platforms like Instagram for letting me clarify,” she explained.
She also emphasized the importance of staying grounded and aware of the political landscape.
