A man in Minas Gerais, Brazil, died after dreaming of gold buried in his property after falling into a 130-foot hole dug under his kitchen floor.
João Pimenta, 71, lost his balance on Thursday afternoon and fell into the huge hole he had dug, eventually reaching the height of a 12-story building.
Neighbors told local media that Joanne had “precognitive dreams” and became obsessed with the idea that there was gold buried under her kitchen floor, and spent more than a year searching for the treasure. It is said that he was
One of my neighbors, Arnaldo da Silva, told Globo He tried to advise the old man not to dig that dangerously deep hole, but the old man insisted, confident that he could reach the gold if he kept searching.
Da Silva even said that in recent days, a neighbor had told him that they had found dynamite to blow up a large rock that was blocking the excavation.
Unusual photos of the hole, which is about 35 inches in diameter and about 130 feet deep, were circulated online as well as in Brazilian media.
Neighbors said Joan paid others to help dig the hole, increasing their pay as the trench deepened. Most recently, he paid others up to $500 to support his efforts.
Local police were called to the home of an elderly man on Thursday after a fall, and his body was taken to a medical center for an autopsy.
The man was found to have suffered a head injury, a broken leg and other fractures, and was pronounced dead.
Officials weren't sure exactly how long Joan had been working on the hole.
