Over 112,000 bottles of Amazon’s extra-strength acetaminophen are being recalled after customers reported issues with discolored pills, as stated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall is still active, according to the FDA.
This recall includes 14,640 bottles of 200 caplets, 90,456 bottles of 500 caplets, and 7,836 bottles of 1,000 caplets.
The FDA revealed that the recall was a result of complaints from consumers about the discolored tablets.
However, the FDA has not identified what caused the discoloration.
Amazon verified the voluntary nature of the recall, mentioning that they are collaborating with the manufacturer and federal officials.
“Amazon is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Pain Relief acetaminophen 500mg caplets due to reports of tablet discoloration in the affected lots,” an Amazon representative said.
They also emphasized that this recall was initiated in cooperation with the manufacturer, Aurohealth, and the FDA.
The FDA did not indicate any specific health risks related to the recall or mention any injuries connected to it.
Lot numbers impacted for the 200-count bottles are ACD125040A; for the 500-count bottles, they are ACD124036A, ACD124030A, ACD124042A, ACD124048B, and ACD125010A; and ACD124048A for the 1,000-count bottles.
The products in question were manufactured in India and distributed by Amazon.com Services LLC, which is located in Seattle, Washington.
This recall follows another voluntary recall that took place on September 3 by Inventia Healthcare Ltd. from India, which involved 13,567 bottles of 25-milligram chlorthalidone tablets that did not meet dissolution specifications, according to the FDA.
FOX Business has attempted to contact Aurohealth for additional information.
