An email sent to affected customers acknowledged the company’s failure to clearly communicate about these returns. The message indicated that due to the time elapsed since the purchases, they decided to process refunds for these cases.
Refunds are being credited to the original payment methods, or customers may receive an Amazon gift card if the original method isn’t available. There’s no required action from customers to receive these refunds, with assurances that they’ve improved the process for handling payment issues and informing customers about outstanding returns.

In a recent update, Amazon’s CFO revealed that the company incurred a substantial one-time cost related to historic customer returns. There’s also an ongoing lawsuit concerning a backlog of returns, where claims have arisen about improperly managed refunds for items returned to designated kiosks.
