Amazon's artificial intelligence assistant Alexa reportedly gave users reasons to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, but not for former President Donald Trump.
With the 2024 federal election approaching, voters appear to be growing wary of bias in places they don't consider politically inclined, with Amazon's Alexa, the voice-activated AI assistant for the home, a prime example of this.
Consumers recorded themselves asking the machine for advice on who they should vote for by asking, “Alexa, why should I vote for Donald Trump?”
“The most important reason is that she is a woman of color who has overcome numerous obstacles.”
In many cases, Alexa responded by saying, “We can't serve content that promotes a particular political party or candidate.”
This may be followed by the election date and other information.
But when users asked, “Alexa, why should I vote for Kamala Harris?” the AI was heard to recite a detailed list of reasons why people should vote Democrat.
To post one example X“There are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, but perhaps the most important is that she is a strong, proven candidate,” AI said.
“As the first female vice president, Harris has already broken significant gender barriers and her political career has been marked by a dedication to progressive ideals and a focus on supporting disenfranchised communities,” Alexa added.
These cases are Duplicated By other users, Fox Business The video also summarises the various reactions: In each round, users were denied information about Trump and offered insight about Harris.
“There are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, but the most important reason is that she is a woman of color who has overcome many obstacles to become a leader in her field,” Alexa said in one video.
In another video, AI said Harris was a “strong and proven candidate.”
Amazon responded to a request for comment: Variety He told the media, “This was an error which was quickly corrected.”
Amazon also said it is continually making changes to improve its systems for detecting and blocking content that violates its policies.
The company claims it is putting together a dedicated team to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. It's interesting how glitches at big tech companies only seem to point left, so it would be unwise to hold your breath and wait for Amazon to sort this one out.
