Ambassador Grayson Shares Positive Outcome of USA Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Japan

US Pavilion at Expo 2025: A Catalyst for Trade Relations

WASHINGTON, DC – The US pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, played a significant role in facilitating a trade agreement shortly after President Donald Trump hosted a delegation of cabinet officials, according to Ambassador William Grayson in an interview.

As the pavilion’s director, Grayson noted that the exhibition drew more than a million visitors in just a few months, showcasing American culture and technology. He emphasized how the venue supported the presidential delegation, particularly during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Isgar in July.

“It was a huge success for Japanese fans of Otani,” the ambassador remarked during a recent address at the State Department.

The delegation was comprised of key figures, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent and U.S. Ambassador George Glass, along with Labor Secretary Lori Chavez Deremer and Deputy Chief Christopher Landau.

During their visit to Osaka, the delegation found their time at the pavilion to be “very productive.” Grayson mentioned the positive interactions with Isba and trade negotiator Rhosie Akazawa.

“We were received very warmly,” Grayson stated. He described the conversations as sincere and productive, pointing out that a trade deal was signed just three days later.

Images shared by Ambassador Glass illustrated a productive gathering with Isba and senior Japanese officials.

When asked if the meeting led directly to a major trade agreement with Japan, Grayson acknowledged that many factors contributed. Nonetheless, he mentioned the meeting was engaging and significantly positive.

Among the notable visitors to the pavilion was Princess Takamad from the Japanese Imperial family, who toured the facility with Grayson.

“They appreciated it,” he said, reflecting on how the exhibit resonated with members of the Japanese Imperial family and government. “Everyone who visits loves the art, culture, technology, and the freedoms we represent.”

Social media from the American Pavilion showcased bustling crowds enjoying musical performances and exhibits highlighting U.S. achievements in space.

“Our exhibits showcase American excellence, with a rich history of technology and space exploration,” Grayson elaborated. He also highlighted the cultural aspects of the pavilion, mentioning genres like jazz, R&B, rock and roll, and classical music. “Whatever you name, we present it,” he added.

Opened on April 13th, the pavilion will remain active until October 13th. Grayson expressed optimism about surpassing 2 million visitors, noting that many come to truly experience the exhibits. “Millions have enjoyed performances on our outdoor stage and dined at our American-themed restaurant,” he stated.

He concluded by asserting that US-Japan relations are “stronger than ever,” with the success of the pavilion aligning with the Trump administration’s ongoing strategy in the Indo-Pacific region.
