Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday said the foreign policy vision advocated by former President Donald Trump and his vice presidential nominee, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), is “nonsense.”
McConnell has long tried To eliminate the growing influence of “isolationist” factions on the Republican Party.
While McConnell did not directly mention Trump or Vance, he called the “America First” foreign policy doctrine “nonsense.”
“So the slogan is the same as it was in the ’30s: ‘America First,'” McConnell added.
McConnell is a strong supporter of Ukraine’s long war, but in a July interview he acknowledged he was unsure what a Ukrainian victory over Russia would look like after spending more than $175 billion in aid on Ukraine.

62% of Republicans distrust aid to Ukraine, while only 36% of Republicans and Republican-leaning Americans trust aid to Ukraine.
In contrast, 63% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say the country should help Ukraine.
