Iranian Missile Attack in Kuwait Injures Americans

Reports indicate that several Americans were injured during an Iranian missile strike in Kuwait, as President Donald Trump deliberates on the possibility of extending a ceasefire.

The Kuwaiti Air Force stated it successfully intercepted a Fateh-110 ballistic missile; however, debris from that interception struck Ali Al Salem Air Base. This information comes from a source familiar with the situation. Located about 60 miles northwest of Kuwait City, the base is a pivotal location for U.S. military operations in the Persian Gulf, accommodating both American and allied forces.

The falling debris resulted in the destruction of a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone and significant damage to another, leading to estimated losses of at least $30 million. Five Americans, including active duty military personnel and defense contractors, sustained minor injuries.

This incident follows two defensive strikes carried out by the U.S. military against Iranian targets earlier this week. The relationship between the two nations remains fraught, particularly over issues related to the management of the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump mentioned he would reach a “final decision” regarding a possible 60-day ceasefire extension after discussions with his national security team. His goal includes permanently reopening the Strait of Hormuz and facilitating further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Iran has a history of targeting commercial vessels in the strait, a busy channel that carries about 20% of the world’s oil trade. The U.S. has implemented a naval blockade to deter numerous ships from entering and exiting Iranian ports, while applying pressure on Tehran for peace negotiations.

Despite a relative quietness in the conflict recently, the U.S. has significantly bolstered its military presence in the area. Dubbed Operation Epic Fury, this conflict has resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and over 400 injuries, according to recent figures.

Moreover, a report from the Congressional Research Service shows that since the hostilities began, a total of at least 42 U.S. military aircraft, mostly drones, have either been lost or damaged.

As the attack happened within the last day, military officials are still assessing the full impact, and the precise number of injured individuals is not yet confirmed.
