AmeriHealth Caritas Expands Health Coverage Options in Ohio
AmeriHealth Caritas has announced its plans to provide health insurance options on Ohio’s Health Insurance Marketplace starting in 2027. This move is aimed at enhancing health coverage access across major metropolitan areas in the state, as indicated in a recent press release.
“Ohio families truly deserve meaningful choices when it comes to their health coverage,” expressed Andy Marino, senior vice president at AmeriHealth Caritas.
The new AmeriHealth Caritas Next plans will be available in several key areas including Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown, as well as in many surrounding suburbs. In total, the service area will cover 11 counties: Butler, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Delaware, Franklin, Hamilton, Lucas, Mahoning, Miami, Montgomery, and Warren.
Around since 2023, AmeriHealth Caritas has been servicing Ohioans via its Medicaid managed care program. The company views this Marketplace expansion as a means to reaffirm its dedication to the state and to provide more healthcare options amid a landscape where choices are limited and prices tend to be rising.
AmeriHealth Caritas first initiated Marketplace offerings in North Carolina in 2022 and has since extended its reach into six additional states, including Ohio.
“We’re thrilled to build on our relationship with Ohio Medicaid participants by introducing AmeriHealth Caritas Next plans here. We anticipate contributing to overall health and delivering added value to even more residents in Ohio,” Marino mentioned.
This healthcare provider operates in 13 states plus the District of Columbia, supporting millions of members across Medicaid, Medicare, and various health programs through managed care products, pharmacy management, and behavioral health services.
The enrollment period for 2027 Marketplace coverage kicks off on November 1, 2026, with coverage commencing on January 1, 2027.
For the upcoming year, the Ohio Department of Insurance has approved nine companies to participate in the Marketplace, a decrease from 11 in 2026. Notably, five counties will see only two insurers offering plans, whereas others will have three or more to choose from.
The companies approved for the 2027 Ohio Insurance ACA Marketplace include:
- AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio, Inc.
- Antidote Health Plan of Ohio, Inc.
- Buckeye Community Health Plan
- Community Insurance Company
- Medical Mutual of Ohio
- Oscar Buckeye State Insurance Corporation
- Oscar Insurance Corporation of Ohio
- Summa Insurance Company
- United Healthcare of Ohio
It’s worth noting that Dayton-based CareSource and Molina Healthcare of Ohio will not have their plans available on the Marketplace in 2027. This change affects around 54,000 Ohio residents who currently rely on these insurers for their health insurance, as reported by the Ohio Department of Insurance.
