Tributes Pour In After Charlie Kirk’s Tragic Death
On September 10, 2025, President Donald Trump ordered that flags be flown at half-staff to honor Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist who was shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point USA, was remembered by Trump as a “truly Great American Patriot.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump confirmed Kirk’s passing and issued a proclamation for the flag tribute.
“As a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 14, 2025,” the proclamation stated.
“I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations,” added Trump.
In the aftermath of the shooting, various officials from Trump’s administration expressed their condolences. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. remarked that “once again, a bullet has silenced the most eloquent truth teller of an era.” He described Kirk as a relentless advocate for free speech and offered prayers for his family.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a heartfelt tribute, noting that “America has suffered a great loss.” He emphasized Kirk’s unique impact on politics and described him as a true friend.
“There will never be another Charlie Kirk. He is one of one. Charlie wasn’t just a force of nature in politics; he was a dear friend who would drop everything if you needed him. His legacy is a beacon of light into the world’s darkest hour,” stated Cheung.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his devastation, praising Kirk’s commitment to future generations and his enduring sense of patriotism.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, along with their two young children.
