A Florida woman who took refuge in Madrid, Spain amid a divorce scandal has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, authorities said.
In December, 40-year-old Ana Maria Knezevic moved into an apartment in Madrid, Spain, for a short escape during her tumultuous divorce from her Serbian husband.
In early February, authorities announced that Knezevic had mysteriously disappeared from a rented apartment in Spain.
Shortly after her sudden disappearance, authorities said they had disabled security cameras in Knezevic’s apartment and that grainy footage of a man, whose identity was obscured by a motorcycle helmet, had been captured.

The motorcyclist allegedly used spray paint on the lens.
The next day, a series of suspicious text messages were sent from Ms Knezevic’s mobile phone to two of her closest friends.
A friend, Sanna Rameau, told The Associated Press that the messages were sent in both English and Spanish.
The message said Kenzevic was caught up in a whirlwind romance and decided to run away with a new boyfriend.
The message read: “I met an amazing person!! He has a summer house 2 hours (hours) from Madrid.” “I’m on my way there now and I’ll be spending a few days there. The signal is spotty. I’ll call you when I get back.”
A minute later, a second text message arrived. “Yesterday, after therapy, when I needed a walk, he approached me on the street! It’s an amazing connection. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.”
Rameau insisted her 40-year-old friend would never run away with a man she had just met.
“She wouldn’t do this…It’s a very dangerous and insane act. She wouldn’t do that, she wouldn’t do that,” Rameau said.

Rameau said the writing was unemotional, uneven and different from her friend’s typical texting style.
“It didn’t make any sense to me,” Rameau said.
Knezewicz and her husband David were married for 13 years before the unhappy couple decided to separate.
The couple owns a business called EOX Technology Solutions Inc. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Records show they own a home and two other properties in Fort Lauderdale, one of which is currently in foreclosure.
In an interview with Fort Lauderdale detectives, Ana’s brother Juan Henao said the divorce was “terrible.”
“The amount of money that is to be split between them is significant, but David is not happy with it,” Henao said.
David Knezevic’s current whereabouts are unknown.

Rameau said Knezevic never told her that she was afraid of her husband or that he was abusive.
“She never told me she felt in danger,” Rameau said.
Police in Madrid and Fort Lauderdale began investigating after receiving reports of Kenzevich’s disappearance.
The Spanish Association for Missing Persons has posted photos of Knezevic around the capital but has not received any response, said spokesman Joaquín Amirs.
