Poor Approval Ratings for Democrats

Harry Enten, a CNN analyst, shared disappointing news regarding approval ratings on Thursday. Although President Donald Trump’s ratings are low, Democratic approval ratings are alarmingly close to their lowest points.

John Berman, another CNN host, pointed out the latest SSRS poll indicating Trump’s approval at just 35%. However, he added that the bad news for Republicans doesn’t translate into good news for Democrats.

Many citizens seem dissatisfied with their party, with 74% stating that Congressional Democrats don’t align with their priorities. This sentiment is even more pronounced among Democratic respondents—55% echo the same concerns about their own party’s congressional representatives.

Enten highlighted this disconnect, noting that even though voters may not favor Donald Trump, they similarly lack confidence in their own party’s performance in Congress. “This clearly signals a significant issue,” he remarked.

In another finding, 32% of Americans view the Republican Party favorably, compared to only 28% having a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

Berman described the stark feedback as a “Democrat-on-Democrat crime” and raised concerns about support for Democratic leaders.

Enten expressed doubts about Chuck Schumer’s future as the Democratic Senate majority leader, suggesting that it might be a “coin toss” whether he can secure re-election for that position.

A recent Economist/YouGov poll revealed that 41% of Democratic voters disapprove of Schumer’s role as Senate minority leader, while just 37% approve. His overall approval stands at a mere 20%.

David Axelrod, a former strategist for Barack Obama, mentioned that Schumer has faced criticism, especially from the progressive faction within the party. He noted that Schumer’s political future could hinge on the results of the upcoming midterms.

“Questions are arising regarding his plans for 2028 and potential challenges to his leadership role,” Axelrod remarked. “The midterm elections might play a crucial role in determining that.”

In comparison, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has a slightly better approval rating among Democrats at 24%, with 43% approving of his performance while 32% disapprove.
