Andrew Cuomo Criticizes Democrats, Claims Party Has Disconnected From Working Class

Cuomo Critiques Democrats on Working-Class Issues

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed disappointment with his party on a recent episode of “Morning Joe.” As he runs as an independent for New York City mayor, having lost the Democratic primary in June, he criticized Democrats for ignoring the working class and allowing housing costs to soar.

Cuomo stated, “Shame on you, Democrats, because you are not getting results. You’ve become disconnected from two major issues.” He emphasized that he struggles to identify any substantial actions taken by Democrats that truly benefitted working families. He mentioned that when individuals enter polling places, they need to see real changes in their lives, implying that Democrats haven’t delivered on this front.

He also commented on the average rent in New York City, which has reached approximately $4,029 per month, making it one of the priciest cities in the U.S. This, he noted, contributes to the sense of alienation among working-class citizens.

Cuomo criticized his opponent, Zoran Mamdani, for allegedly having a poor attendance record in the New York State Legislature and lacking experience in official roles. He remarked, “At 33 years old, he has never managed anything.” Cuomo suggested that Mamdani’s qualifications were questionable, especially for someone aiming to lead the city.

Mamdani has advocated for initiatives like a rent freeze and increasing the minimum wage to $30, alongside establishing more government-operated grocery stores and public transport options. He faced backlash in the past for branding the NYPD with harsh descriptors but has since tried to clarify his stance, aiming to reassure voters that he does not support defunding the police.

In a resurfaced video from a 2021 event, Mamdani articulated a vision for socialism that includes gaining control over production. Additionally, during a debate, Cuomo highlighted that Mamdani referred to himself as not being a Democrat, even claiming he hadn’t voted for Kamala Harris, which Mamdani did not contest.
