Support for Cuomo in NYC Mayor Race Grows
U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat is officially backing Andrew Cuomo for the mayoral position in New York City. This endorsement seems to be boosting support from former governors within the Latino communities of Washington Heights and the Bronx.
During a Mother’s Day event in the Bronx on Saturday, key Democratic figures expressed their enthusiasm, urging women present to vote. They emphasized this support despite Cuomo resigning as governor in 2021 amid numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.
“He has the best intentions at heart,” Espaillat stated in a heartfelt bilingual message as seen in a shared video. It’s interesting to note how people perceive intentions, isn’t it? Sometimes it feels like that’s what we need to focus on.
“He needs you. He needs mothers, daughters, and granddaughters in the community,” Espaillat added. It’s about a collective push for change, which feels particularly significant.
Further statements from Espaillat’s coalition highlighted that Cuomo is seen as a proven leader capable of addressing major issues like affordability, public safety, and federal debt in the Big Apple.
Cuomo is currently endorsed by three House members—Ritchie Torres and Greg Meeks also show their support. Additionally, Congressman George Alvarez, who organized the Saturday event, is part of a coalition of community leaders formed for this mayoral race.
“His record speaks to his ability to tackle our city’s challenges,” Alvarez stated, echoing the sentiment that a strong approach is essential now more than ever. It’s not just about promises; action needs to follow.
“From increasing affordable housing to ensuring safer streets, the Bronx requires someone ready to jump in and get started from day one,” he continued.
Cuomo expressed eagerness to collaborate with the community when elected. “No one supports the Bronx more than we do,” he declared, according to a video of the event.
“The Bronx has been overlooked for too long. It’s time to change that and focus on creating better, safer job opportunities. We’re committed to making that happen.”
