Andrew McCutchen responds to David Samson in verbal exchange about baseballs

Ongoing Drama Between David Samson and Andrew McCutchen

The back-and-forth between David Samson and Andrew McCutchen in the MLB is still unfolding.

On Sunday night, McCutchen reacted to comments made by the former Marlins president about Pirates outfielders, sparking further discussion.

“Does my source stink, David? It’s funny because my ‘source’ is Rob Manfred, the MLB commissioner,” McCutchen wrote on social media. He added, “I have 27 witnesses who will support my claim. So I’ll stick to your little channel and address this…”

He even shared a video clip of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson advising someone to “know your role and shut up.”

McCutchen’s comments came in response to Samson, who participated in a podcast and criticized the statements McCutchen made regarding baseballs this season.

This drama kicked off after the Mets game on June 13th.

In the eighth inning, Juan Soto hit a high fly ball to right field with an impressive exit speed of 110.8 mph at a launch angle of 22 degrees. Fans in Citi Field were sure the ball was headed for the stands, but it was caught, ending the inning.

Following this, a user on social media expressed skepticism regarding MLB’s integrity, saying, “I can’t convince myself that MLB isn’t using dead balls.”

In a surprising move, McCutchen responded by stating, “We have been informed by an MLB representative that the ball is actually different this year. They stated that there are higher seams, which create more resistance, preventing the ball from traveling as far.”

He indicated that MLB is looking into this but mentioned that he won’t be able to take action during the current season.

Samson, however, dismissed McCutchen’s claims.

On the podcast, he confidently asserted, “I want to be the one to tell Andrew McCutchen that his sources are unreliable. Anyone he’s speaking to probably doesn’t know much about the subject.”

Interestingly, MLB has reported to the Athletic that home runs have been decreased by about 4 feet this season.

The ball is now in Samson’s court as McCutchen prepares to respond to this latest jab.
