Giants’ Andrew Thomas Returns Strongly After Injury

The Giants recently welcomed back Andrew Tomouth, who had been sidelined since last October due to foot surgery, during their match against the Chiefs two weeks ago.

In an impressive performance last Sunday, the former All-Pro offensive lineman played all 76 offensive snaps, contributing to the team’s first victory of the season with a close 22-18 win over the Chargers.

“I went into the game thinking I’d play the whole time unless something unexpected happened,” Thomas mentioned after a Friday practice in East Rutherford. “I felt good and had a solid week of training. There are a lot of plays on Sundays, but it’s just great to be back out there.”

Reflecting on the weeks leading up to this moment, Thomas felt “normal pain” from the games, playfully adding, “Honestly, my lungs felt more exhausted than anything else.”

The Giants’ starting offensive line, featuring Thomas, John Lanjan Jr., John Michael Schmitz Jr., Greg Van Roten, and Jermaine Elmnoll, collectively participated in all 76 plays.

They achieved a season-high of 161 rushing yards, which included some impressive runs from rookie Camsquattebo.

In addition to the rushing yardage, the passing game showed some promise, with a completion rate of 13-for-13 over various attempts, although there were six sacks to contend with.

“We had a solid game; winning is essential for us to keep building on this,” said Thomas. “I would say it’s our best game so far because, well, we won. But we can definitely do more in the red zone, improve our run game, and protect Jackson better.”

At 26 years old, Thomas was a full participant in Friday’s practice after previously being limited the day before. Head coach Brian Dabor noted that the focus this week was on managing the fourth overall pick from the 2020 draft carefully.

As the Giants prepare to face a struggling 0-4 Saints team in New Orleans this week, they will have a short turnaround before taking on the Eagles at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night.

Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka expressed pride in Thomas’s performance: “In his first game back, he had limited playtime, maybe in his 20s. The next week, he plays most of the game, which is impressive.”

He added that it was great to see Thomas performing at the level they expect of him, particularly considering his responsibilities as a captain and leader in the locker room.
