Giants’ Andrew Thomas Progresses as Game Day Approaches

Andrew Thomas is gradually increasing his activity level, but the final call regarding his participation in the Pro Bowl will come at game time, as noted by coach Brian Daboll.

On Thursday, the Giants practiced in non-padded gear. However, Coach Daboll mentioned that Thomas is expected to take “many reps,” despite being officially listed as limited for the second consecutive day.

Daboll described the uptick in Thomas’s workload as a “good sign,” especially after the offensive tackle missed the first two games of the regular season. He is still in recovery from left foot surgery performed last October.

When asked if Thomas could compete even without a full practice, Daboll responded, “He’s played a lot of football. I think he managed to work with many players on Wednesday, and he’ll be taking on a lot of them today. It’s just an encouraging sign.”

“I expect this will become clearer as we approach game time. We’ll see how he feels after practice on Friday. He needs to feel right, but it’s definitely a positive indicator for his progress. He seemed to feel good after putting in substantial work on Wednesday,” he added.

Meanwhile, veteran tackle James Hudson III was penalized four times during the Giants’ initial drive in the recent loss to the Cowboys, prompting a switch to rookie Marcus Mbow.

Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. made an impact on special teams, recording five kickoff returns for 132 yards, although he only had five carries against Dallas.

“He clearly showed his capability in college and had some success last year as well. It’s a chance to let a player shine,” remarked Michael Gobrial, the special teams coordinator. “His unique skill set is incredibly valuable to the team. He possesses good speed and vision, so when you give him that opportunity, he can take advantage of it,” he continued.

Despite limited participation from linebackers Chauncey Golston (ankle) and Darius Muasau (concussion protocol) noted in the injury report, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) has returned, albeit with restrictions.

Additionally, several players including WR/KR Gunner Olszewski (back), WR Wan’dale Robinson (foot), DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches (foot), OL Jon Runyan Jr. (back), C John Michael Schmitz (toe), and WR Darius Slayton (groin/calf), along with Tracy (calf), are also listed as limited participants.
