Jaxson Dart’s NFL Debut to Kick Off Sunday at MetLife Stadium
The rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, is set to make his debut on Sunday, and he’ll need the support of his key offensive players to hit the ground running.
Andrew Thomas, who made his return to the field last week after undergoing foot surgery for a Lisfranc fracture, was limited to about 25 plays. Fortunately, he’s recovering well and was not mentioned on Friday’s injury report.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Thomas said regarding his participation in Sunday’s game.
Brian Daboll remarked, “There are definitely more reps than he played last week. We’re just assessing where he’s at, but he’s doing well. It’s encouraging to see him improving week by week.”
Like the rest of the team, Thomas is eager to see Dart in action. “We’re rallying around him. He’s young, but he brings talent to the table. We’re focusing on our communication and blocking effectively as we prepare.”
The mobility Dart brings to the offense is an advantage, and Thomas believes it shouldn’t change how the offensive line protects the quarterback. “All of our quarterbacks are mobile,” he noted, mentioning Dart along with Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston.
Injury updates on Malik Narvers indicate he was limited in practice this week due to a shoulder issue. Tight end Theo Johnson is expected to play against the Chargers as well.
Graham Gano will also take the field on Sunday, recovering from a groin injury. However, defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (ankles) and running back Tyrone Tracy (shoulder) will be included, although Rakeem Núñez-Roches (foot) remains doubtful.
Abdul Carter is making his presence known, having recorded four tackles in his first start against the Chiefs last Sunday. He’s showing promise with his versatility and ability to rush from various positions.
“He’s developing,” defensive coordinator Shane Bowen mentioned, adding, though, that his primary strength lies in outside rushing. “There’s a balance to what he brings, and he can really put pressure on the quarterback,” he added.
When discussing practice conditions, Daboll acknowledged it can be uncomfortable, especially when relying on the medical staff for guidance. He emphasized the importance of collaborative decision-making, especially during inclement weather.
Daboll shared, “I’m in constant contact with our team about field concerns when the weather isn’t cooperating.”
