Carlos Beltran’s Continued Impact in Baseball
Carlos Beltran is making a significant mark even after his playing days. On Sunday, as he was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame wearing a Mets cap, interim manager Andy Green highlighted the influence Beltran is having as a special assistant.
During an interview, Green noted Beltran’s readiness to tackle even the less glamorous tasks. “What you appreciate about elite players is what they offer when no one is watching,” he said after the Mets secured an 8-3 win over the Dodgers at Citi Field. He mentioned it’s now time for Beltran to engage with young hitters in the A-ball team down in Daytona, sharing his experience and knowledge.
Beltran’s role as a special assistant began in 2023. He returned to that position after stepping down from the managerial role amidst controversial circumstances surrounding the Astros’ illegal sign-stealing scandal. Notably, he served as manager for only 77 days without coaching a single game.
According to Green, Beltran has worked as a consultant for major league teams, yet he embraces a crucial part of the job: connecting with players. “He wants to invest in the next generation of Mets,” Green expressed. Building respect involves more than just showing up in a major league clubhouse; it’s about genuinely engaging with minor league players.
In other news, Green commented on Clay Holmes, indicating that the next steps for him remain undecided after he pitched 2 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse during his rehab from a fractured right fibula.
On the field, Francisco Lindor contributed with an RBI single in the first inning. Over his last ten games, he’s hitting .282 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
The Mets broke a six-game losing streak against the Dodgers, a slump that began last June. This win hopefully marks a turning point for the team as they look to build momentum.
