Sen. Andy Kim (D.N.J.), who famously picked up trash after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, said he was concerned that the U.S. Capitol was being “papered over.” .
Kim appeared on CNN's Dana Bash's “State of the Union” on Sunday and reflected on that day as the four-year anniversary approaches.
“So we saw with our own eyes, with our own eyes that were in Congress, what the American people saw, what people around the world saw, and it was covered up in paper, and we saw it with our own eyes that were in Congress, and it was covered up in paper, and we saw it with our own eyes that were in Congress. “They saw the idea that people who had committed crimes were being talked about as liberators, but now they're being talked about as prisoners who were wronged,” Kim said. . “We are a nation of laws and this is heartbreaking,” he continued.
Kim, who has served as a member of the New Jersey House of Representatives since 2019, was recently elected to the Senate.
As President-elect Trump prepares to take office again, there are concerns that he, his administration, and his supporters may take drastic action.
President Trump has vowed to seek retribution against his political opponents, including those who appeared before a select House committee on January 6 to investigate his role in the attack.
Kim said he was saddened by the mob's destruction of the Capitol and attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
“This is a very great country, and yet we experienced a very sad moment that day,” he said. “We should try to never let something like this happen again. But instead, we see it's another lesson that unfortunately many people are taking away.”
