Angel Reese’s Rookie of the Year argument just got stronger after rewriting WNBA history on Sunday night.

Although the Chicago Sky lost 84-71 to the Seattle Storm, Reese recorded her 13th consecutive double-double, breaking the record previously held for multiple seasons by WNBA great Candace Parker.

Reese, who had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the loss, has now recorded double figures in at least two statistical columns in each game since June 4.

Fans praised Reese for her efforts, including User X, who posted, “Every time you break Candace Parker’s record you do something crazy.”

The double-double came on a fast break. Sky rookie Camila Cardoza missed a layup, but Reese picked up the rebound. She quickly put the ball back in the basket for two more points, making history with a double-double.

Another player who took notice of Reese’s performance was Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, who simply reposted Bleacher Report’s graphic of the double-double record along with a fire emoji to show his support for the LSU alum.

The double-double from Reese also came in the third quarter, which is impressive in itself, but Reese is certainly comfortable in the WNBA and this streak is indicative of similar performances.

Reese and her Sky teammates believe she is the front-runner for Rookie of the Year given her nightly production, and she’s already in the Rookie of the Year conversation.

Her main competition is Indiana Fever No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark, who also made WNBA history on Saturday by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.

Amid the Reece vs Clarke feud, Sky’s social media team have revealed who they think comes out on top.

“Record setter. Front runner,” Sky posted on X after the win over the Storm on July 5. Reese reposted it, and it also got a nod from teammate Chennedy Carter in a post-game interview.

“Barbie Rookie of the Year. There’s no other way to say it,” Carter said. New York Post“She does her job every night no matter what team she’s playing. She’s definitely the Barbie Rookie of the Year.”

That’s still up for debate, but Reese’s All-Star selection is not. After a strong start, Reese said he was thrilled to find out he’d be heading to Phoenix for the post-game celebration.
