Angel Reese injury clouds her return to WNBA

Angel Reese had a great rookie season in the Chicago skies, breaking the record for the longest winning streak in a double double game WNBAA rebound record for a single season. Rhys, who drafted the overall number 7 by Sky, adapted well to the physicality of the WNBA, improving the game to match the style of the league and team. Lease’s season ended even earlier when he injured his wrist while the sky missed the playoffs. She underwent surgery to repair a hairline fracture on that wrist after the WNBA season.

Her season ended early, but Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per 1.3 games during her rookie season.

She recovered in time to start the other 3-3 seasons in January, helping the Rose Basketball Club win the league’s first championship. Reese also recorded the league’s first 20-20 games, scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds against the moon’s Owl and Nafisa Collier. Rose entered the championship game and won, but Reese’s unparalleled season ended early when she left Miami early with her hand injured.

The unparalleled person never specified what the exact nature of her injuries was, and the Chicago sky did not provide any updates on the status of the lease. With training camp starting in under a week, it’s certainly on the way. Reese was unable to finish his rookie season in the WNBA and due to these injuries, he was unable to finish both of the other injuries, whether they were connected or not.

If Reese can start the WNBA season on time with Chicago, the goal is that she hasn’t been injured throughout the season. Given the glimpses she has begun to show unparalleled this year, there is an opportunity to jump around this year’s skills. Her ability to score under the basket, take advantage of opportunities for second chances, and defend, was all emphasis points in Miami.

However, wrist and wrist injuries can be challenging, especially considering Reese already needed surgery. To compare, I was with Scotty Burns. Raptor Over the past few years as a Toronto-based basketball journalist, Burns was slightly different at the end of the 2023-2024 NBA season, but still associated with having similar fractures in his hand. He also underwent surgery and recovered in time to play at the start of the 2024 NBA season. However, around February to March he injured his hand again, and although he still could play, there was a noticeable struggle. At the end of the season, Burns said his hands are often paralyzed, making it difficult to hold basketball properly.

Again, this is clearly not the exact same scenario, but it is a reminder that these injuries remain.

The focus changes to sky development while waiting to see what Chicago releases in Lease’s injury situation before training camp. They fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon for the first time on the team after the 2024 WNBA season. The team’s new coach is Tyler Marsh. Tyler Marsh previously coached under Becky Hamon as ace in Las Vegas and has a track record of developing players.

In a very unique year with the WNBA (considering the majority of the league will head to free agency after this season), Sky appears to have focused on mentorship this year. They brought Courtney Vanderroot as a veteran guard along with Ariel Atkins’ deal. Kia Nurse is another proven veteran who just finished an incredible season with Athlete Unlimited. Rebecca Allen offers plenty of great guidance to the young wings.

Conversely, the sky has drafted several outlooks with Haley Van Lis, Ajisa Shivka, Aichia Coolively and Maddie Westveld. This team cannot compete for titles, but can continue to develop the core for the future.

A major issue with the development of Angel Rees in the second year is their ability to maintain good health. If so, she will continue to grow into one of the most exciting young prospects in the WNBA.
