Angel Reese Reflects on Chicago Tenure and New Beginnings in Atlanta
Angel Reese has announced the conclusion of his challenging time with the Chicago Sky, but he insists it wasn’t entirely negative.
Recently traded to the Atlanta Dream for future first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, Reese expressed gratitude for the experiences in Chicago, albeit with some turbulence. “I had a lot of great experiences, and I’ll always appreciate that,” he noted.
During his introductory press conference in Atlanta, Reese shared, “The first two years were valuable for my growth, but I wanted more. I thrive on competition and winning, and it was important for me to be with people who can support my development.”
Last season, he had faced suspension after publicly sharing his dissatisfaction with the team’s direction, especially as the Sky wrapped up a dismal 10-34 season.
In those moments, he indicated that if the roster didn’t improve, “I might have to go in a different direction and do what’s best for me.” Unfortunately, this led to a suspension for comments considered detrimental to the team.
Additionally, Reese was sidelined for the last three games of that season because of a back injury.
Now, as he embraces a new chapter in Atlanta, Reese feels there’s still more to prove. “I’m not fully satisfied with who I am as a player,” he admitted. “I believe I can grow further alongside these teammates. I want to contribute and help them win; that’s my primary focus. Everything else is secondary. I came to an organization that truly values its players.”
Lyne Howard, one of his new teammates, remarked, “She [Reese] is special to us because she might be exactly what we were missing.”
As Reese joins the Dream, a team that recently celebrated a franchise record of 30 wins, his impressive averages of 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds from last season will hopefully add to their success.
