Angel Reese was thrilled to hear that her brother, Julian, has signed a contract with the Lakers after the recent NBA Draft in 2025. She shared her excitement on social media, saying something like, “Come to JU.”
Julian Reese, who completed a noteworthy four years at Maryland, made a significant impact during March Madness with a Sweet 16 appearance. He is now set to participate in an NBA Summer League game, as noted in a release from Maryland.
Angel, their mother, also chimed in about the signing and posted graphics related to the transaction. She mentioned, “I write ‘#Nbasummerleague’ in my post.”
He had an impressive senior year, becoming the second in Maryland’s history to reach both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, averaging 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Reese committed to staying at Maryland for all four years, a decision influenced by his aspiration to earn a degree while facing various challenges, including coaching changes.
Reports Following the 2025 NBA Draft
“It was a huge deal. He wanted to be a Maryland kid and earn his degree from the University of Maryland,” said coach Willard, reflecting on Julian’s dedication. “He envisioned returning to the NCAA Tournament, and believed staying was the right choice. Transferring can be risky, and he wanted to be loyal.”
During the 2022-23 season, he became a crucial part of Maryland’s starting lineup. Supporters rallied behind the team as they achieved victories but were ultimately eliminated by Florida after advancing to the Sweet 16.
The 6-foot-9 forward will now join several new teammates with the Lakers, including Eric Dixon from Villanova, RJ Davis from North Carolina, and Augustus Marquillionis from Mary’s.
Interestingly, Julian attended St. Francis Academy, the same high school as his sister, Angel, who has pursued her own successful career, currently playing for LSU after being picked seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Angel Reese averaged 11.3 points and 11.9 rebounds in her second season with the Sky, although the Chicago team has faced a rocky start to the year, with a record of 4-11 before their latest game against the Sparks.
