Angel Reese says ‘leave me out of this’ after US wins Olympic gold

Angel Reese doesn’t want to look ahead to the 2028 Olympics just yet, as both Sky rookie and Caitlin Clark (who was left out of the U.S. squad for Paris) will be vying for a spot on the team that’s on a 61-win streak following Sunday’s gold medal match victory.

Instead, she’s just trying to enjoy the moment, celebrating the women’s national team’s latest Olympic title, with the U.S. defeating France 67-66 at the Bercy Arena.

“Celebrate women and enjoy this moment!” Reese I wrote on X’s post on Sunday afternoon. He added a halo emoji at the end: “Stay out of this until my time comes!”

Reiss’ post was a response to an ESPN article that projected an early version of the U.S. team’s roster when the Summer Olympics return in four years’ time.

That was a possibility this year, but as rookies, it was always unlikely that Clark and Reese would make it onto an Olympic roster that already includes established stars such as Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson and Deanna Taurasi.

Still, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen in the future. Reese, speaking with broadcasters during the All-Star Game, alluded to a desire to play alongside Clark as a member of the U.S. national team when the Olympics move to Los Angeles in 2028.

“It was a lot of fun playing with her,” Reese told ABC. “I think we’ll be playing a lot together in the future and hopefully in four years we’ll be Olympians together.”

Reese, the seventh overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, starred at Louisiana State University and along with other collegiate players such as Clark and JuJu Watkins, helped fuel the rise of women’s basketball and carried that momentum to the professional level.

Reese emerged as one of the front-runners for the league’s Rookie of the Year award during the first half of his rookie season, recording 15 consecutive double-doubles and averaging 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game before that streak was ended against the Liberty on July 13.

She played in an All-Star Game, helped the WNBA team stun the U.S. team, then flew overseas to Paris and London and sat courtside with Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry at the Olympic women’s national team showcase game.

The Reese and Sky haven’t played a game since July 16 during the WNBA’s Olympic break, but will resume their season on Thursday when they host the Mercury.

Chicago is three games behind the Dream for the final playoff spot.
