Angel Reese Faces Suspension After Eighth Technical Foul
Angel Reese received a one-game suspension on Thursday following her eighth technical foul, which occurred during a game against the Sun on Wednesday night.
The foul was called with just 46 seconds left in the second quarter, automatically leading to her suspension for one game. Reese’s suspension will take effect on Friday when the Sky play against the Heat.
According to WNBA rules, Reese will face an additional game suspension for every two technical fouls she accumulates moving forward.
The Sky, with a record of 10-30, have only four games remaining in their season.
During the previous game, Reese was battling for position beneath the basket when she collided aggressively with a player from the Sun.
After the match, Reese expressed her frustration, saying, “[The referee] said it was too late to change the call. I asked why we weren’t allowed to make that decision. I already have seven technicals, so does the next one mean I sit out the following game? I’m thinking we might need to discuss this further with the league, but he said it’s too late, so I’m a bit unsure about that.”
Despite the controversy, Reese had a strong performance in the game, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Sky won 88-64.
Crew chief Randy Richardson commented on the technical foul, describing a situation that was deemed a “non-basketball act” by Reese. He stated that they felt it warranted a technical foul due to its nature.
The suspension followed closely after Reese had clarified her earlier critical remarks regarding her teammates, indicating she might consider leaving the organization if it didn’t become more competitive in the offseason.
