Angel Reese to miss remainder of WNBA season with wrist injury

The Chicago Sky suddenly announced on Saturday night that Angel Reese is season-ending after suffering a wrist injury during the team's game, officially marking the final double-double of his rookie season. Friday's win against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Reese had 24 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes in his first league final game. WNBA Campaign, Sky It said in a statement “After undergoing further medical evaluation,” the statement said, Reese “will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury.”

The team did not say which wrist Reese injured or provide any specifics other than to say they would “provide a medical update at a later date, as necessary.”

Consider She now has her own podcastReese will likely have more updates on his own platforms, but in his first post since the announcement, he struck a hopeful tone, joking that he never expected the 3-pointer to be the last point of his rookie year and that he hopes it serves as a warning to the league about the shot he wants to make more consistently going forward when he returns to the court.

Reese will finish her first year in the WNBA averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, setting a new WNBA record for rebounds in a season, and, as she noted in her post, she is sure to make an impact on the league in her first year, and as a result, is widely expected to finish second in Rookie of the Year voting behind fellow rookie star (and frequent rival) Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.

We wish Reese a speedy recovery, and it looks like fans won't have to wait long. Too “We're eager to see her play again,” she said in her post, noting that she's still ready for the inaugural season of Unrivaled, a professional women's 3-on-3 league that begins its debut match in January.

The Chicago Sky (12-22 overall, 2-8 in their last 10 games) are unlikely to make the playoffs anyway, so this will only impact their season in terms of fewer on-court sessions for Reese to continue his development, but their future is still bright next season if Reese returns fully fit and is another high draft pick in 2025.
