Angel Reese whacks Caitlin Clark in head for Flagrant-1 foul, and WNBA refs got it right

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese WNBA They are well known for their fierce rivalry in women’s college basketball. LSU The team beat Clark’s Iowa team in the 2023 national championship game when both players were juniors. They met again in the Sweet 16 as seniors, where Clark and the Hawkeyes got revenge by ending LSU’s season.

Clark was the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Reese was the No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Sky. There’s already been a budding rivalry between the two pro teams since Chicago’s Chennedy Carter hip-checked Clark earlier this season, sparking a nauseating national debate. Part of the problem with that play was that the referees ruled Carter’s sneaky shot a general foul, only for the league to change it to a flagrant foul the next day.

When the Sky and Fever met again on Sunday in a nationally televised game on CBS, Clark was again called for a hard foul, but this time the officials got it right. As Clark was driving to the basket, Reese hit her hard in the head while trying to block. The officials called for a review and ruled it a flagrant 1 foul, meaning Clark got two free throws and Indiana got the ball afterward. Watch the play here:

This was not a dirty play or intentional sneakiness. Clark went for a layup, but Reese tried to recover for a block and hit Clark in the head on the way to the ball.

Clark appeared perfectly fine after the play and went on to score nine points in the final five minutes of the third quarter. We hope she’s OK, as a hard hit to the head is nothing to take lightly.

The Angel Reese vs. Caitlin Clark rivalry will continue to thrive in the WNBA, and whenever these two players face off it becomes must-watch television.
