Angel Reese’s mother seems to be throwing shade at fans of Caitlin Clark, suggesting that their fanbases are entirely different.
Webbrees, the mother of a player from the Chicago Sky, has taken aim at Clark’s supporters, claiming they lack accomplishments. Reports indicate that she made her thoughts known in a post on X, critiquing the celebrating fans who were focused on their own teams. She mentioned that Reese’s accomplishments and experiences simply do not compare to those of Clark.
In her post, she noted that while certain fans were celebrating in the stands, the atmosphere around Reese’s fanbase was different, hinting at a sense of achievement entwined with criticism. “We’re not the same,” she wrote. “We’re having a great day while dealing with some negativity from the same time period.”
Meanwhile, Reese has restricted her account, allowing replies only from selected users.
However, if Reese is trying to imply that Clark has limited achievements, the numbers tell a different story. Clark’s accolades, including both the WNBA Rookie of the Year and the AP Rookie of the Year Awards, far exceed those of Reese.
This ongoing tension between Reese and her supporters versus those of Clark continues to escalate.
Last September, Reese accused Clark’s fans of harboring racist sentiments. “I think they’re not really fans, more like fair-weather supporters who are quick to criticize. Sometimes it feels quite rude. There’s a lot of underlying racism in that context,” she said.
The strife between Reese and Clark dates back to their college days, during which Reese faced backlash for her actions on the court in a match involving their respective teams, the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes. There was also an incident where Reese hit Clark during a game in 2024.
