Angel Reese Trade Sparks Surge in Dream’s Ticket Sales
The WNBA season is still on the horizon, but the Atlanta Dream are already reaping the rewards of the recent Angel Reese trade.
After acquiring Reese from the Chicago Sky for two first-round picks, ticket sales have seen a remarkable uptick. In fact, StubHub reported that sales increased by 15 times compared to last season, marking “the largest single-day spike in franchise history.”
StubHub noted, “The Angel Reese effect is real.”
As one of the brightest new talents in the WNBA, this surge isn’t shocking at all. Fans in Atlanta—along with those new to the league—now have a household name to rally behind, a player who is expected to become a key asset for the team.
Reese, drafted seventh overall in 2024, is just two seasons into her career and is already averaging a double-double. She’s led the league in rebounds per game in both seasons, with impressive numbers of 13.1 and 12.6, giving her a career average of 12.9 rebounds.
In the scoring department, she started with an average of 13.6 points in her rookie year, bumping it up to 14.7 last season. That’s some solid growth.
However, her time with the Sky ended abruptly when the team hinted at pursuing a “different direction” due to her performance. Reese expressed, “I want to be here for my career, but if things don’t work out, obviously I might have to go in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”
Outside of basketball, Reese is quite active, having participated in Victoria’s Secret’s “Season of Strapless” campaign during the off-season. She also hosts the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, showcasing various guests.
For a team that averaged around 4,400 fans per game last season, Reese’s addition could potentially elevate the Dream to new heights, much like Caitlin Clark did for the Indiana Fever after her impressive college career. There’s hope that Atlanta might even become a title contender.
Last season, the Dream finished first in the Eastern Conference with a commendable 30-14 record, landing them third overall. Unfortunately, they faced a tough first-round playoff matchup against the Fever and were eliminated.
With Reese’s scoring and rebounding prowess, she has the potential to lead Atlanta back to the postseason in 2026. And it seems she’ll do so with more fans than ever cheering her on.
