Angelina Jolie Discusses Her Double Mastectomy Scars

Angelina Jolie has shared her double mastectomy scars publicly for the first time.

More than a decade after undergoing surgery, the actress appeared in an interview for Time France, where she revealed her journey.

“I share this hurt with many of the women I love,” the 50-year-old Oscar winner mentioned in an interview published recently.

On the magazine’s cover, Jolie can be seen in an open black top, using one hand to cover her breasts while subtly highlighting her scar.

“It’s always inspiring to see other women share their stories,” Jolie remarked.

When asked about her involvement, she expressed enthusiasm, saying, “When I learned that TIME France would focus on breast health and cancer awareness, I wanted to be a part of it.”

In the photograph, her hand rests against her chest, drawing gentle attention to the scar visible just below her thumb.

Jolie underwent preventive surgery in 2013 after losing her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to breast and ovarian cancer.

She had tested positive for a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, significantly increasing her risk for these cancers. Back then, she stated in a New York Times essay, “The decision to have a mastectomy was not easy, but it was one I am very satisfied with.”

“My chances of developing breast cancer went from 87 percent to below 5 percent, and I can reassure my children that they don’t have to worry about me developing this illness,” she added, referring to her children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

In 2015, Jolie also opted to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed, further showcasing her commitment to making informed health choices.

She shared her experience as a means to empower other women, stating, “Healthcare decisions should be personal, and women deserve the information and support needed to make those choices.”

Recently, Jolie reiterated to “Hello!” magazine that she has “no regrets” regarding her surgery. She reflected on her family history, expressing that the loss of her mother and grandmother played a significant role in her decision.

“It’s my choice,” she shared, making clear that while her path might not be for everyone, having options is crucial.
