Angels’ Joe Adele Criticizes Field Conditions After Teammate’s Injury
Angels outfielder Joe Adele expressed concern over the field conditions at Daikin Park, home of the Astros, after a teammate was injured during the game.
Taylor Ward was stationed in left field for the Angels when he attempted to catch a ball in the eighth inning hit by Astros infielder Ramon Urias.
The broadcast picked up the alarming sound of Ward colliding with the scoreboard, prompting him to signal for his trainer immediately.
In a distressing moment captured on social media, Ward was seen leaving the field with a towel covering his face.
Teammates Andrew Chaffin and Kenley Jansen hurried from the bullpen, bringing towels to assist Ward and indicating for the trainer again.
Following the game, which the Angels won 3-0, Adele didn’t hold back in criticizing the stadium’s layout.
“He’s just trying to make the play,” Adele noted. “But we’ve talked about this before: there shouldn’t be any metal scoreboards in the outfield at a major league park. It’s ridiculous.”
After the game, interim manager Ray Montgomery mentioned that Ward likely needed to go to the hospital for stitches due to a cut above his eye.
Montgomery expressed uncertainty about whether Ward suffered a concussion, noting that “the only silver lining” was that Ward hadn’t lost consciousness during the incident.
“It looked like something on the wall might have cut him. I really hope he’s okay,” Montgomery added.
