Angels Prospect in Critical Condition Following Car Accident
There are concerning updates regarding Rio Foster, a passenger involved in a serious car accident in Washington. The Angels organization confirmed this news on Friday.
“Today, we learned that Rio Foster, a member of our TriCity affiliate, was seriously injured in a car accident early this morning in Richland, Washington,” the team’s statement indicated. “Rio is currently hospitalized and is in a dangerous condition.”
The organization asked the Angels community to keep Foster and his family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Although specifics about the crash are still unclear, reports suggest it happened early on Friday.
Foster, a 22-year-old outfielder, was the 16th overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft. Just the day before the accident, he was named Player of the Month for the Northwest League.
This season, he played 93 games for the Dust Devils, achieving a batting line of .267/.407/.439. Following the accident, the Tri-City team announced that they canceled their home game on Friday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rio, who was seriously injured in the accident,” stated the Dust Devils organization. “Tonight’s game against the Hillsborough Hops has been canceled.”
Angels Interim Manager Ray Montgomery spoke with reporters and mentioned he has no additional updates about Foster but recalled having a positive interaction with him during spring training.
“Right now, we don’t have a lot of information, but what’s important is Foster and his family,” Montgomery noted. “He’s a fantastic young man, and we saw some promising things from him during training.”
“His career seemed to be on an upswing, but everything is now uncertain. All we can do is pray for a positive outcome,” he added.
