Former TV Anchor Admits to Stabbing Mother

A former news anchor from Missouri has confessed to fatally stabbing her mother last Halloween, believing her to be the devil, authorities reported last week.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, age 48, entered a guilty plea for first-degree murder in connection with the death of her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, which took place on October 31, 2025, as announced by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

As part of the plea agreement, Mock is facing a life sentence, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Police responded to the residence that Mock shared with her mother and stepfather around 7:50 a.m. on Halloween. Upon arrival, they found Mock outside, reportedly with cuts on her hands.

Avers was hospitalized due to multiple stab wounds but unfortunately later succumbed to her injuries.

Statements made by Mock indicated she believed her mother was the devil, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit. She allegedly told law enforcement she killed her mother to “save herself.”

Mock’s stepfather informed a local news outlet that she had a history of mental health issues, experiencing delusions and depression.

Before this incident, Mock was known for her work as a news anchor and reporter at Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. She also served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011, and has held various reporting roles in states like Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

Her sentencing is set for October 5.
