Texas Woman Charged in Murder Attempt with Fentanyl-Laced Chocolate
A Texas woman is facing serious felony charges after allegedly trying to kill her ex-husband by sending him fentanyl-laced chocolate, which she framed as a gift for his new engagement. Pamela Jean Stanley, 63, was ensnared in a sting operation conducted by the Parker County Sheriff’s Special Crimes Unit after they learned about her plan to introduce fentanyl into a box of luxury chocolates.
Additionally, the package was reported to contain fraudulent “honeymoon” offers from travel agencies, adding to the bizarre nature of the scheme. It seems this attempt was a backup plan for Stanley.
More than a year before, she had allegedly hired a hitman to carry out the murder, but the assassin grew a conscience and informed the intended victim about the plot. Her ex-husband, Kauth, recalled feeling lucky that the hitman approached him. “I turned off the lights and lived in fear,” he said, explaining how he went to extremes with security measures during that year and a half. He quickly contacted the police after receiving the tip.
Kauth reflected on how Stanley’s motivations appeared to stem from a desire for revenge and inheritance. “It’s like she was aiming to reclaim the life we once had, but in a twisted way,” he added, expressing gratitude that she had not succeeded in her plans.
Stanley was apprehended in late May when an undercover agent met her in a motel parking lot to finalize the alleged fentanyl transaction. Shortly after the deal, she was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including murder and criminal solicitation related to drug possession with intent to distribute. At the time of her arrest, officers reportedly seized 9.5 grams of meth.
Interestingly, she has not yet faced charges regarding the previous hitman plot. Following her arrest, Stanley was released in late May on a $450,000 bond. However, she was formally charged on July 10 and is expected to be arraigned soon.
It’s worth noting that Stanley has a prior legal history, having pleaded guilty in 2019 to illegal firearm discharge, which resulted in probation and community service.
This story serves as a stark reminder that sometimes, relationships can take a dark turn, leading to unthinkable actions.
