Anguilla Named Safest Caribbean Destination

If safety is a priority for your vacation, you might want to consider Anguilla. This small Caribbean island has recently been recognized for its peaceful environment, stunning beaches, and amazing food scene.

According to the World Population Review’s 2025 rankings, Anguilla has been identified as the safest place in the Caribbean. The assessment looks at several factors, including crime rates and political stability, relying on data from the World Peace Index.

The report highlights Anguilla’s impressively low crime rates, stating, “It has very few violent or petty crimes that could tarnish its image as a tropical paradise.” Tourists can reportedly feel secure while enjoying the serene beauty of the island.

The study did point out that while drug-related crimes are present, they rarely impact visitors.

The U.S. State Department has also rated Anguilla at Level 1 on their travel advisory scale—indicating minimal risk. Tourists are encouraged to practice ordinary safety measures.

“Peace is felt here,” proclaimed the Anguilla Tourism Board on social media in the wake of the report. “With 33 beaches and the welcoming nature of our community, safety is inherent to life on the island.”

Following Anguilla in the safety rankings were Barbados, St. Barts, Martinique, the Cayman Islands, and Aruba.

John Rose, a principal risk advisor at ALTOUR, explains that Anguilla’s ranking stems from its unique advantages, including limited access points and cross-border criminal activity being lower due to its isolation. He mentioned that tourism is being managed in a boutique manner, which contributes positively to safety perceptions.

Experts note that this acknowledgment not only boosts traveler confidence but also benefits the tourism economy in general.

It’s worth mentioning that Anguilla has been recognized before for its charm. In Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards, it was celebrated for its warm hospitality, culinary diversity, and luxury accommodations.

Travel blogs often cite Anguilla as an ideal getaway, highlighting its lack of commercialism, with no shopping malls or imposing buildings. Instead, it offers pristine waters, white sandy beaches, and delicious seafood.

Erin Schroeder, a travel advisor based in Atlanta, echoed sentiments about Anguilla’s appeal, stating it stands out among Caribbean destinations. She remarked, “The island’s safety is crucial for travelers when choosing their destination.”

Schroeder also mentioned the island’s accessibility challenges. “There’s only one direct flight option from the U.S. You have to fly to St. Maarten and take a boat from there, which can increase travel costs,” she added, noting that a shared ferry costs around $115 per person each way.

She appreciates being able to stroll along the beach at night without worries, a significant plus for many travelers looking for safety.

Rose added practical safety tips like checking local advisories and consulting with hosts or travel advisors for real-time updates. He emphasized that safety is not a one-time consideration; it evolves.

Ultimately, Anguilla’s mixture of tranquility, beauty, and remarkable safety sets it apart as a premier destination in the Caribbean.
