Ann-Katrin Berger of Gotham FC continues to make impressive saves

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Gotham FC Goaltender Anne-Katlin Berger’s Experience

Anne-Katlin Berger, the goaltender for Gotham FC, humorously remarked about feeling older at 35. She mentioned heading into the championship match against the Washington Spirit with some soreness.

However, once the game kicks off, she believes that all the tiredness and discomfort will fade away.

“Usually, you just switch it off,” she shared, explaining how she tells herself to ignore any signs of fatigue or frustration.

Despite her age, Berger continues to play at a level comparable to her prime, frequently pulling off remarkable saves. Teammate Mandy Freeman noted how every time she thinks she’s seen the best save, Berger surprises her with something even more impressive in training or games. “I think that drive to improve is what makes her so special,” Freeman added.

While Berger didn’t pinpoint her best save, her teammates recalled some outstanding moments. For instance, during last weekend’s semi-final against the Pride, she managed to block a header from Oihane Hernandez, preventing an equalizing effort. Freeman felt especially grateful, admitting it was her foul that led to the free kick.

Emily Sonnett also remembered a striking save against current forward Allie Sentner in the quarterfinals, saying, “Allie hit a rocket, and I just can’t believe Anne managed to stop it.”

Another highlight for Berger was during Germany’s Euro 2025 quarter-final victory over France, where she extended her arm to prevent a possible own goal from a teammate. The moment has since turned into a bit of a in-joke among her peers, with Freeman recalling how she suggested it could be printed on a T-shirt.

As Gotham prepares for Saturday’s game, Berger stands as a crucial line of defense against Washington’s formidable offense. Should Gotham secure a win, their goaltender’s impact will undoubtedly be felt throughout the city.
