Vogue’s Anna Wintour announced Thursday that TikTok CEO Sho Zhi Chiu will be the “honorary chair” of this year’s event, which will be joined by celebrities including Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Zendaya. He announced that he would be seated alongside the chairman.

This year, Spanish fashion brand Loewe will also be a sponsor.
This is the first time TikTok has sponsored the Met Gala. In the past, it has been sponsored by Instagram and Amazon. Last year’s Met Gala was sponsored by Chanel.

TikTok’s Shou Zi Chew came under fire before members of Congress last year over the fact that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, had access to the data of tens of millions of Americans who use the addictive app. Ta.
He testified again earlier this year about the company’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party and the national security risks they pose.
The annual Met Gala isn’t just an event that celebrities must attend. It’s also a favorite destination for Democratic politicians looking to mingle with the rich and famous. Past attendees include Hillary Clinton, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D-N.Y.).
