Anne Hathaway Opens Up About Vision Struggles

Actress Anne Hathaway has disclosed her battle with a secret medical issue that affected her for a decade. In a recent appearance on The New York Times podcast “Pop Cast,” the 43-year-old revealed that she was “legally blind” in one of her eyes due to juvenile cataracts, a condition that plagued her throughout her 30s.

“This might be too much information,” she began, “but I’ve been half-blind for ten years.” She explained how the condition impacted her vision significantly, saying she ultimately required surgery. “I didn’t fully grasp how severe it had become until I started to see things clearly again,” she shared.

According to the Mayo Clinic, cataracts can obscure the eye’s crystalline lens, causing vision problems similar to looking through fogged glass, making activities like reading or driving at night challenging.

Hathaway expressed her gratitude for her restored vision, calling it a “miracle.” She described waking up each day and appreciating the gift of sight, connecting it to a sense of history. “I think about how someone like me wouldn’t have had those options two generations ago,” she reflected.

In other recent remarks, Hathaway also addressed swirling rumors regarding plastic surgery, stating she usually prefers to avoid commenting on her appearance. “We live in a time where people confidently assume their theories are true,” she remarked, alluding to the mixed reactions she sometimes encounters regarding her looks.

“Honestly, I sometimes question whether I should share anything at all,” she admitted. “But it felt important to clear things up amid the speculation.” Hathaway concluded with a light-hearted note, mentioning that while she hadn’t made any drastic medical changes, she wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a facelift in the future.
