New Addition to the “Yellowstone” Universe

Annette Bening, the acclaimed Oscar-nominated actress, is set to join the cast of the upcoming spinoff series related to “Yellowstone.” This was officially confirmed on August 25th.

The new series will focus on characters Bess Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, and Lip Wheeler, portrayed by Cole Hauser, shortly after pivotal events from the original series, which aired on Paramount from 2018 to 2024.

Bening will take on the role of Beulah Jackson, described as the influential and charismatic leader of a significant Texas ranch.

In December 2024, it was initially reported that the spinoff starring Reilly and Hauser was in development.

Notably, several returning cast members from “Yellowstone” will appear alongside the leads, including Finn Little, who will reprise his role as Carter.

The official description of the series reveals that Bess Dutton and Lip Wheeler are thankful for the hard-won peace on their vast ranch. The storyline will depict their struggles and strategies for survival amidst challenges.

Taylor Sheridan, the creator of “Yellowstone,” is returning as executive producer for this new narrative, with Chad Feehan taking the helm as showrunner.

Hauser expressed his eagerness to continue exploring Lip’s journey, especially after the conclusion of “Yellowstone” this December. He remarked that the audience still holds affection for the show, pointing out how families gather around it on Sundays, immersed in its Montana backdrop.

However, Hauser remained coy about how Lip would re-enter the story after the series finale, suggesting that audiences will have to wait and see what unfolds.

“Yellowstone” primarily revolves around the Dutton family, the proprietors of Montana’s largest ranch. The saga features John Dutton, the patriarch, played by Kevin Costner, and his adult children, including Casey, Jamie, and Beth, along with Beth’s husband, Lip.

Costner departed the series after the first half of Season 5, reportedly following a dispute with Sheridan. The show addressed his exit with the dramatic assassination of his character, initially made to seem like a suicide. Jamie, the Montana Attorney General, faced moral dilemmas tied to his father’s decisions but wasn’t directly blamed for the murders.

The series finale aired on December 15th, drawing more than 13 million viewers, culminating in the conclusion of its five-season run that began in 2018.

In a twist, Casey saved the Yellowstone Ranch by selling it to Chief Thomas Rainwater, while Beth avenged her father’s death by confronting Jamie.

Despite speculation about a potential Season 6, Paramount has yet to confirm any developments on that front.
