Andrews’ Advocacy Earnings Outstrip Pediatrician Salary
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate from South Carolina, Annie Andrews, reportedly earned more through her anti-gun advocacy than during her career as a pediatrician, as outlined in a Senate finance disclosure. She is described in a biography from the D.C. Chapter of the American Association of Pediatrics as “a gun violence prevention advocate and researcher, and Senior Advisor at Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.”
The disclosure indicates that Andrews received $130,631 from the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, in addition to $97,000 from the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, she was compensated for giving 13 speeches at children’s medical centers and pediatric organizations across the country.
Andrews promotes herself as “Dr. Annie Andrews” on her campaign materials and website, where she features images of herself in a lab coat and stethoscope. However, it seems that she has had limited interaction with patients since her unsuccessful congressional bid in 2022.
In 2023, Andrews resigned from her position at the Medical University of South Carolina to concentrate on political advocacy aligned with left-leaning causes. According to WCBD-TV in Charleston, where she used to live, she established a Political Action Committee focused on anti-gun initiatives.
This move connected her with Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, two significant proponents of gun control backed by Michael Bloomberg.
Her LinkedIn page shows that Andrews served as a senior adviser from May 2023 through May 2025 while preparing to run against the late Sen. Lindsey Graham in the 2026 midterm elections. She declared her candidacy for the seat shortly after.
Andrews’ anti-gun platform advocates for “universal background checks” and “banning weapons of war from our streets,” and she has the endorsement of Giffords PAC.
The backing from Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety seems to have provided a timely advantage for Andrews. Earlier this month, Breitbart News highlighted that the former New York City mayor was investing $80 million into Democratic campaigns to gain congressional control in the upcoming midterms.
In her upcoming race, Andrews faces Republican Sen. Darline Graham, in a contest that has seen heightened activity recently. Notably, former President Donald Trump held a rally in the state last week to galvanize support for Graham and the Republican Party in South Carolina.
