Announcer for the Chiefs steps down before the second home game

Dale Carter, the public address announcer for the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, has stepped down after 16 years in the role.

Carter announced his resignation via Facebook just before the Chiefs’ upcoming home game against the Eagles, a rematch of Super Bowl 2025.

“Today I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off me,” he posted. He mentioned that he had informed the Kansas City Chiefs of his immediate departure, reflecting on his long tenure which included six AFC Championship games.

In a follow-up post, Carter explained his reasoning for the sudden choice. He, also the host of a morning radio show, linked his decision to changes in how third-down calls were being handled, suggesting the team was seeking a new direction.

“This will be my last words about the Chiefs,” he wrote. “The red line for me came with the third-down call that I started using over a decade ago. It became a signature part of game day.”

Heading into the playoffs last season, he noted that his production team had mentioned feedback suggesting that someone from another stadium’s PA announcer had been heard.

Carter has been a familiar voice for Chiefs fans and his departure leaves the team with a tight timeline to find a successor.

The Chiefs issued a statement expressing gratitude for Carter’s service. “We are thankful for Dale’s dedication and professionalism over the past 16 seasons,” they said. “We respect his decision and wish him the best moving forward.”
